Instagram is about to launch its first generative AI tool, and its new sticker creation process will allow users to create visuals within the app based on text prompts.
As you can see in this example posted by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, Instagram is developing a process that will enable users to create custom stickers powered by generative AI in the stream.
Users will then be able to share these visuals within the app, providing another way to engage and create using Instagram’s native tools.
This could see more people using generative AI, especially if Meta extends these tools to Facebook as well. Right now, one has to have some familiarity with the tools available and access them directly to see the possibilities – but by bringing Generate AI options to Meta users, might drive more people to try them, and see them posted on more places.
Meta has made no secret of its intentions in this regard, and its ambitions to integrate generative AI into its processes.
As Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg noted in the company’s latest earnings update :
“I think there is an opportunity to introduce AI agents to billions of people in useful and meaningful ways. We are exploring chat experiences in WhatsApp and Messenger, visual creation tools for posts on Facebook and Instagram and ads, and over time The transition video and multimodal experience. I hope these tools will be valuable for everyone, from ordinary people to creators to enterprises.
According to reports, Zuckerberg is enamored of the potential of artificial intelligence tools, and the rapid development of this field, and is eager to integrate them into Meta’s applications as soon as possible.
So while this new option from Instagram may be the first taxi in the rankings, you can expect more AI-based tools to roll out to Meta’s app over time as it continues to invest in this technology and find more ways to bring these options to its billions of users.
It’s still early days, and we don’t yet know exactly how the process will work. But they may arrive in the near future.
